Amilcar E. Rizzo, MD, FAAD

Meet Amilcar E. Rizzo, MD, FAAD, a dermatologist with Carolina Dermatology of Greenville

Amilcar Rizzo, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. His interest in dermatology began at a young age after developing a phototoxic reaction in his skin, a serendipitous event that ultimately sparked his intellectual curiosity for investigating the unknown in human skin biology. Originally from California, Dr. Rizzo and his wife, a Greenville native, moved from New York to the Upstate.

Dr. Rizzo is the author and co-author of several scientific articles that have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the Journal of Dermatological Treatment, and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Throughout his career, Dr. Rizzo has participated in prestigious fellowships and secured funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Howard Hughes Medical Fellows Program. He also received the Loren D. Carlson Award, the highest research accolade given to a graduating medical student.

Dr. Rizzo provides his expertise in managing medical conditions like acne, actinic keratosis, eczema, moles, psoriasis, and skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma). Dr. Rizzo's extensive background in basic, clinical and translational research allows him to provide patients with the latest therapeutic options. He also understands that each patient is unique and the newest treatment does not always translate to the best option for the individual. Dr. Rizzo is committed to delivering high quality dermatologic care in a patient-centered manner, and is dedicated to improving the quality of life of his patients.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, playing sports, traveling and dining.
